Portraits of His Holiness the Dalai Lama: Phil Void 30 Years Retrospective
6-20 July 2007
As a part of the celebrations to mark the 72nd birthday of His Holiness the Dalai Lama, the Tibet Museum will be hosting a special photo exhibition entitled a “Portraits of His Holiness the Dalai Lama: Phil Void 30 Years Retrospective”.

Phil Void has been documenting the Tibetan exile community since 1976, with a special emphasis on photos of His Holiness the Dalai Lama. Apart from his interest in photograpy, Phil Void is a songwriter and a founder of the Dharma Bums. The group has performed and recorded all over the world. Their special commitment has always been to the cause of a Free Tibet, and many of their songs reflect this sentiment, especially Rangzen.

The exhibition provides a glimpse into the extraordinary life of His Holiness the Dalai Lama, who was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1989 for leading the non-violent Tibetan struggle and for his efforts in promoting peace in the world.

Reflection: A contemporary art exhibition
13-23 October, 2007
This extraordinary exhibition of the best-selected paintings of three artists has as its main objectives to visually present their emotions about life in exile, to create awareness and appreciation for contemporary art within the Tibetan community, and to give an important message for preserving Tibet’s unique culture.

The remarkable technical resources of these artists are as important as their insights and perceptions. Many of the paintings incorporate strong lyrical and narrative elements. Inspired by the native genius of Tibet and its classical heritage of visual arts, these paintings imbibe the sounds, smells and textures of their homeland. The renewal of representational art has a vital base in “Reflection”, firmly grounded in the earth and soil of its content. These wonderful and evocative paintings, physically and technically outstanding, have been created to last for many decades in the universal language of art—surely a thing of beauty and a joy forever.
